I sit back in my chair, reading articles on topics ranging from natural disasters to politics. I know I've made this observation before but humanity is failing on a global scale. Lets take the mess in Japan as our first example. We have here one of the most earthquake prone countries on Earth. They have a large population an a relatively small chunk of land. They have the brilliant idea to build nuclear plants all over the place, and can't foresee a earthquake and Tsunami IS going to happen when building these things? Forget for a moment that nuclear power is NOT a sustainable energy source. it creates tons of waste that will be radioactive for more years then I'll be around, or any of you now reading this or any of your children, or their children... I think you get the idea. So we(humanity) build all these reactors filled with things that are just plain toxic to all forms of life in places where they are going to have problems. Its not a question of If, but when. I was reading this morning on msnbc we have a reactor in Washington State declaring a 'unusual event'. This just goes to show Americans are NOT any smarter then the Japanese when it comes to building in unsafe areas. In fact we have something akin to 100 nuclear reactors in the United States. Whats the shelf life on a nuclear reactor these days any way? 50 years? With most of our plants they are 30+ years old. Do you seriously believe these things haven't already developed problems that have gone undetected? When was the last time we permanently decommissioned one of these things? Do they just sit there for 10,000 years? How does one go about disassembling a nuclear power plant? Seriously, tell me, I want to know.
I'll move on to politics, though I realize its a touchy subject but honestly, you know I'm going to go there because when it comes to writing these things someone needs to shovel aside the huge piles of dung, and tell it like it is. Don't worry, I'm your girl for that, I'm here to help you. In the U.S. right now we have two major parties(Yes, I know there are others, but two that get most of the news..three if you count the 'Tea Partiers' which by the way, I don't). You have the Republicans, e.g. conservatives, and the Democrats, e.g. liberals. Then you have those of us that give the happy finger to the two party system.
The government is broken.Yet we have a country full of college educated or better people who make a whole lot more money then I do who can't figure out how to fix this? Alright fine, its time for me to solve the worlds problems once again. Here's what you do with the government.
Scrap it down to the constitution, thats basic rights and laws and START OVER.
We don't need 5 million Americans to descent on Washington DC demanding change, we reform the continental congress, with delegates from each state attending and we rewrite the system from the ground up. No one gets everything they want but we build from the basic concept which was good when this country was founded "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness". Check your watches, its past time for the American people to get off their backsides and do something.
Right now we're involved in three conflicts(they aren't 'wars' as war has to be declared by congress). They are money funnels in to the military-industrial construct. How much have we spent on Iraq and Afghanistan? Too bloody much, and I mean that literally, bloody. We've lost thousands of our young men and women over the years to conflicts that the average American considers a quagmire at best. If we are going to invade some where, The President(no matter who that is at the time) should go before the representatives of the American people and explain where we are going, why, what we want to accomplish and then congress should vote whether or not to act. Period. No unilateral action thats open ended just declared by the President, EVER.
If congress declares war, honestly, bluntly, screw the U.N. and NATO, commit our forces and get in there with the combined force of the U.S. armed forces bringing overwhelming force and get the job done and then bring them home.
Okay, so I've covered news to some degree, I mucked in to politics, and now finally we get to weather which I'll keep brief.
If you're wondering why the ozone is going bye bye, the arctic ice is melting, and generally chaos reigns in the planets weather systems well its real simple.
HUMANS ARE POISONING AND KILLING THE PLANET AND MOTHER NATURE IS HONKED OFF! It doesn't require a degree in meteorology or geology or any other course of study to figure out when you attack a living thing(like oh, I don't know the Earth) it is going to defend itself.
I need a drink, I'm disgusted.
